DISNEY/ABC's job cutting will extend to the ESPN division, but the company is hoping to reduce the number of jobs at the sports network by 200 positions during 2009 through attrition rather than firings. The NEW YORK TIMES reports that the network has frozen salaries for top executives and has not ruled out layoffs.
However, some hiring is still going on, with former KANSAS CITY CHIEFS coach HERM EDWARDS joining the network as a football commentator; he will appear on ESPN RADIO as well as the network's other platforms.
Parent DISNEY says that it intends to cut 400 jobs from the DISNEY-ABC TELEVISION GROUP, 200 active workers and 200 positions that will not be filled.
