News Orgs Want Webcast

A group of 14 news organizations, including the RTNDA, DOW JONES, NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO, the NEW YORK TIMES CO., GANNETT, HEARST, TRIBUNE, SCRIPPS, NBC UNIVERSAL and the ASSOCIATED PRESS have filed a joint brief supporting the online streaming of a hearing in the RIAA's copyright infringement lawsuit against BOSTON UNIVERSITY graduate student JOEL TENENBAUM.

The RIAA is appealing a court ruling allowing the webcasting of the FEBRUARY 24th hearing, objecting on the basis that it endangers its right to a fair trial and violates federal court guidelines on cameras in the courtroom. U.S. District Court Judge NANCY GERTNER ruled earlier this month to permit COURTROOM VIEW NETWORK to stream coverage of the hearing to the website of HARVARD UNIVERSITY's BERKMAN CENTER FOR INTERNET AND SECURITY, where the stream would be available to the public.
