The "UK Theme" is fading into history, as BBC RADIO 4 drops its traditional opening musical medley after 33 years. The musical interlude, a five minute medley of "Danny Boy," "What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor?," "Scotland the Brave," "men of Harlech," "Greensleeves," "Londonderry Air," "Early One Morning," and "Rule Britannia," has signaled the transition from the frequency's overnight simulcast of the WORLD SERVICE to the day's RADIO 4 programming at 5:30a GMT since 1973 but will be replaced by a newscast and estended shipping forecast in APRIL.
