As expected, CBS has flipped Rocker WXRK (KROCK)/NEW YORK to the market's newest entry into the Top 40 arena with the 5p (ET) debut of 92.3 NOW FM, under CBS RADIO VP/Top 40 Radio DOM THEODORE.
The station signed off as a Rocker with VAN HALEN's "Right Now," pointing listeners to itsHD channel, which will be the new K-ROCK home, then stunted into a promise of 10,000 songs in a row.
Listen to a recording of the actual flip here.
The first songs aired were:
BLACK EYES PEAS - Boom Boom Pow
FLO RIDA - Right Round
LADY GAGA - Poker Face
KANYE WEST - Heartless
AKON - BeautifulThe imaging on 92.3 NOW is being provided by ANDREW KISHINO, along with CHRISTINE FUNG (who can also be heard on KROQ). Supporting voices are courtesy of JAKE KAPLAN, RYAN MILL and JAMES HARNESS.
In a shot at Z100, a promo spoofed the Mac vs. PC commercial. Was that DOM THEODORE as the voice of the Mac?
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WHTZ (Z100) has had the format to itself for some time, and has benefited ratings-wise. In the JANUARY 09 ARBITRON PPM 6+ MONDAY-SUNDAY 6a-mid ratings, Z100 was rated as NEW YORK's #2 station, with a 5.4 share -- just 0.1 behind market leader CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLTW (106.7 LITE-FM).
WXRK, as a Rock station, was the 21st-ranked station, with just a 1.5 share ... and trending down.
