Spanish Talk WAQI-A (RADIO MAMBI)/MIAMI News Director ARMANDO PEREZ-ROURA is being accused of plagiarizing a column he wrote for DIARIO LAS AMERICAS from an article written by a dissident Cuban journalist.
The MIAMI HERALD reports that the Cuban writer, OSCAR ESPINOSA CHEPE, published an article in CUBA about the nation's dying sugar industry, and that four days later, PEREZ-ROURA's article appeared with about 500 of 660 words identical, according to the HERALD.
ESPINOSA has written to the paper and CUBANET, the website where his own article appeared, noting the use of his article without attribution; PEREZ-ROURA told the paper that he often reads articles on the air and that his secretary transcribes his commentaries for use as newspaper columns and that any mistake in attribution would have been inadvertent.
