Vin Scully Enters Another Hall Of Fame

The NAB inducted legendary LOS ANGELES DODGERS broadcaster VIN SCULLY into its Broadcasters Hall of Fame TUESDAY afternoon at the NAB SHOW's Radio Luncheon in LAS VEGAS.

Recounting his start at WTOP/WASHINGTON "a thousand years ago, it seems," SCULLY gave a brief speech thanking the NAB for the award and GOD for his 60 years in broadcasting.

Ramsey: 'Failure Can Be A Good Thing'

Syndicated financial host DAVE RAMSEY spoke to the luncheon audience about "economic hope" ("now, THERE's a topic!", quipped RAMSEY), first running through a history and criticism of Keynesian economics and the perils of being "sincerely stupid."  He suggested that Americans need to embrace failure on an individual level ("A little desperation is good for the soul.  Failure can be a good thing"), and he credited his success today to his own financial failure that led to his economic enlightenment and career advising others.

RAMSEY also said that the word "no" needs to be "reinstalled" in everyday life. "NO, you shouldn't buy that house because you're freakin' broke," he intoned, reeling off other examples and launching into a defense of the idea of personal responsibility ("Turns out McDonald's sells hot coffee!"). He outlined three things to do to maintain hope, including getting up and taking action ("go do something! Cut grass, shovel show, do something"), not participating in "loser talk" ("the little man can't get ahead"), and learning to give ("be a giver like you've never given before"). 

"We the people are the healing agent," he said in closing, maintaining his theme of keeping government regulation out of the economic recovery, "and if you leave us alone we'll heal this thing (the economy) as a group."
