MILLENIUM Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON "THE JERSEY GUYS" afternoon hosts CRAIG CARTON and RAY ROSSI pulled off a hoax that ensnared local daily tabloid THE TRENTONIAN with a stunt that involved a fake RYAN SEACREST storming off the show after being asked if he was gay.
The WEDNESDAY stunt drew a widely disseminated article from the paper, but CARTON and ROSSI spilled the beans on the stunt on THURSDAY, saying that "SEACREST" was actually a member of the station's cleaning crew, and CARTON said that "it's mind-boggling" that people care about the KIIS/LOS ANGELES morning man and "AMERICAN IDOL" host's sexuality.
The TRENTONIAN has had previous run-ins with the station, insisting in 1992 that then-afternoon team JOHN AND KEN and the station were not being truthful about their announced exit to join KFI-A/LOS ANGELES (after JOHN AND KEN joined KFI, the paper issued a columnist's "correction" insisting that it had not been wrong in doubting the story).
