At 9:55a CT, CLEAR CHANNEL Smooth Jazz WNUA/CHICAGO kicked into a promo highlighting the past of the frequency -- and then launched its new Spanish AC format with 5,000 songs in a row. Pres./Market Manager EARL JONES also announced the move of Smooth Jazz WNUA 95.5 to HD Radio at 95.5 HD2.
MEGA's featured artists include JUANES, MANA, SHAKIRA, ENRIQUE IGLESIAS, AVENTURA, ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ, PAULINA RUBIO, REIK and WISIN Y YANDEL. The station will announce a programming lineup with local on-air personalities soon.
"The revenue support for WNUA declined significantly in recent years due to the changes in how advertisers evaluate radio stations, and we were faced with a very difficult decision," said JONES. "I would like to thank the CHICAGOLAND community for their support of Smooth Jazz 95.5 WNUA during the last 22 years."
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population in ILLINOIS represents 15.2% of the total population in the state. The City of CHICAGO ranks among the top cities in the U.S. with the largest Hispanic population, representing 28% of the city’s residents. “CHICAGO is an incredibly diverse city,” said JONES. “We now have a full complement of radio stations well-positioned for revenue and ratings growth.”
