Seeking to extend its beachhead on mobile devices, GOOGLE said WEDNESDAY it has started selling advertising on behalf of developers of applications that run on the iPHONE and GOOGLE's mobile ANDROID software, reports THE MERCURY NEWS. "GOOGLE began selling ads that appear next to mobile search results two years ago and quickly broadened its services to include advertisements that appear on independent Web pages, following the approach it has taken online. The company wants to expand its dominance of online ad sales to new arenas, and mobile is among the areas it has targeted.
"In a blog post WEDNESDAY morning, GOOGLE VP/Product Management SUSAN WOJCICKI said GOOGLE wanted to contribute to the growth of mobile applications by enabling developers to make money. The new program, called ADSENSE for Mobile Applications, which is still in a testing phase, is only available to developers of applications that are free and that attract a minimum of 100,000 daily page views."
GOOGLE exited the ad business for radio in FEBRUARY (NET NEWS 2/12).
