The NEW YORK POST's JOHN MAINELLI is reporting that actor and former U.S. Senator FRED THOMPSON (R-TN) is "the leading contender" to succeed PAUL HARVEY on ABC RADIO.
MAINELLI reports in FRIDAY's paper that THOMPSON, who plays District Attorney ARTHUR BRANCH on "LAW AND ORDER" and its spinoffs and appears in ALBERT BROOKS' current movie "LOOKING FOR COMEDY IN THE MUSLIM WORLD," is said by "several insiders" to be at the "top of a short list" to take over for HARVEY, who is in the middle of a ten year, $100 million deal; a network spokesman told MAINELLI that the company has "spoken to Sen. THOMPSON, but we talk to talent all the time about many different roles. There's no replacing PAUL HARVEY."
