CBS Flips To Sports In Boston And D.C.; WBMX Heads To 104.1 As 'BCN Moves To Web/HD2

Rumors become reality, as CBS RADIO will launch BOSTON’s newest sports station, WBMX (98.5 THE SPORTS HUB), on THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th. The former Hot AC MIX 98.5 will move to 104.1 [details below], displacing Alternative WBCN -- which will live on at www.wbcn.com and 98.5 HD 2.
In addition, WASHINGTON, D.C.’S FM SPORTS STATION, WJFK (SPORTSRADIO 106.7 THE FAN), launches on MONDAY, JULY 20th.“There’s no better way to reach large numbers of male listeners than through exclusive sports programming,” said CBS RADIO Pres./CEO DAN MASON. “We’re seeing impressive ratings growth at a number of our stations and clients continue to make big investments in sports marketing. CBS RADIO/BOSTON will launch 98.5 THE SPORTS HUB on THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th. The station will serve as the home of the three-time SUPER BOWL Champion NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS and the NHL’s BOSTON BRUINS, and feature personalities including TOUCHER AND RICH in morning drive.98.5 THE SPORTS HUB will assume the call letters WBZ-FM upon launch, pending FCC approval. A full talent and programming schedule for the station will be announced at a later date.

Mix 98.5 Moves To WBCN's 104.1 Signal
As a result of the launch of THE SPORTS HUB on 98.5, CBS RADIO’s legendary Hot AC station, WBMX, will change its dial location on WEDNESDAY, AUG. 12th and move to 104.1. The station will feature the same music and personalities familiar to listeners with improved signal coverage benefitting the at-work listener. MIX’s new website can be found by logging on to www.mix104.com.Finally, WBCN will say goodbye to BOSTON listeners after 41 years on the air with a month’s worth of unique programming and stories celebrating the history and heritage of the station. Fans of WBCN will be able to listen to the station online at www.wbcn.com, as well as at 98.5 HD 2 for those who have an HD Radio receiver.

On MONDAY, JULY 20th at 6a, WJFK will become SPORTSRADIO 106.7 THE FAN. WJFK favorites, THE SPORTS JUNKIES, will remain in morning drive, and will add to the local sports coverage provided by talent such as WASHINGTON POST columnist MIKE WISE, local sports expert BILL ROHLAND, former WASHINGTON REDSKINS linebacker LAVAR ARRINGTON and WJFK mainstay CHAD DUKES.SPORTSRADIO 106.7 THE FAN will also serve as the flagship station for the NBA’s WASHINGTON WIZARDS.
