Is GEORGE STEINBRENNER shopping for a radio station? The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS' BOB RAISSMAN reports that "according to MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL moles," the NEW YORK YANKEES owner is looking to buy all or part ownership in a NEW YORK station to go along with ownership of the YES regional sports cable network.
The YANKEES are entering the last season of a five year deal with CBS News WCBS-A; after the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS' bold move into station ownership with the purchase of KTRS-A/ST. LOUIS and LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM owner ARTE MORENO's buy of Spanish KMXE-A/ORANGE-LOS ANGELES, several other teams' names have been thrown into the rumor mill as portential station buyers, including the BOSTON RED SOX and CINCINNATI REDS.
