New KRKO Towers Knocked Down

The controversial new towers at the site of S-R BROADCASTING Sports KRKO-A (NORTHSOUND 1380)/EVERETT, WA were knocked down early TODAY, and crosstown BONNEVILLE Talk KIRO-F is reporting that the towers were bulldozed, and an employee of KRKO told KIRO that a banner from the EARTH LIBERATION FRONT was left at the scene; KIRO has posted the first pictures of the damage at its website.

The SNOHOMISH COUNTY Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, and believes that a bulldozer found in a nearby field was used to knock the two new towers down. The towers, intended to allow KRKO to increase its power and to enable the sign-on of a new AM at 1520 AM, have been the target of much opposition by neighbors and environmental groups.
