The FCC has released the quarterly report on informal consumer inquiries and complaints for first quarter 2009, and complaints about radio and TV increased from 29,108 in fourth quarter 2008 to 188,558 in first quarter 2009. The vast majority of complaints came in MARCH about indecency; after receiving 578 indecency complaints in JANUARY and 505 in MARCH, the number exploded to 179,997 indecency complaints in MARCH alone. The Commission does not specify which programs were the subject of the complaints.
Inquiries also rose over 19%, but most were regarding the digital TV transition.
