The FCC has rejected several informal objections to the three-way deal under which THE NEW YORK TIMES RADIO, LLC is selling Classical WQXR/NEW YORK to UNIVISION's WADO-AM LICENSE CORP., with UNIVISION selling in turn the facility of Spanish Tropical WCAA (LA KALLE)/NEW YORK to noncommercial WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK, which will move the WQXR format to the smaller signal.
The objectors (BARBARA F, SHIVELY, G.P. GENNARO, DAVID M. GERSTEIN, Dr. ISRAEL A. JAFFE, and CHARLES SCHENCK), who filed against the WQXR sale portion of the deal, voiced support for the Classical format and concerns that it will not be preserved. The Commission noted that it does not get involved in format decisions, leaving those to the market.
