Yet another attempt by BARRY UNIVERSITY to sell PBS affiliate WXEL-TV and NPR affiliate WXEL-F/WEST PALM BEACH appears to be unsuccessful, as the PALM BEACH POST reports that the PALM BEACH school board is now backing away from spending $2.3 million to buy the stations. School board CFO MIKE BURKE told the POST that the money, part of a $4.5 million reserve account, will instead pay for unexpected salary costs.
A previous $5 million deal to sell the stations to the owner of PBS affiliates WNET (TV)/NEWARK-NEW YORK and WLIW-TV/GARDEN CITY-NEW YORK fell through last year.
