SMOOTH JAZZ NOW.COM, the world’s largest Smooth Jazz website, is launching a new online radio station. After a soft launch on SEPTEMBER 1st, SMOOTH JAZZ NOW will start a big online promotional blitz on FACEBOOK and TWITTER in mid-month and via a massive e-mail promotion
This venture features a combination of the best aspects of Smooth and Contemporary Jazz as well as New Age and Chill. "We wanted to take the Smooth Jazz mold and literally expand it, to give it an edge," Smooth Jazz Now Pres./PD JOHN BEAUDIN said. "I've been involved in programming this music on terrestrial radio since 1986, but I've also been one of the formats biggest critics. So much of Smooth Jazz radio has become boring, either through too much groove/funk or cover tunes. We play lots of tempo-driven songs during the day like MARC ANTOINE’s ‘Sunland’ and DAVE KOZ’ ‘Love is on the Way.’
BEAUDIN pioneered the sound of the format with his highly-rated program Night-Lite in EDMONTON from 1986-1989, followed by another run in CHUM/VANCOUVER from 1990-2000. "The genre has really changed throughout the years and not always for the best," he said. "I was probably the only guy who was reluctant to go R&B or play too many covers.” He was also PD of two Smooth Jazz stations in CALGARY, THE BREEZE and CALIFORNIA 103.
SMOOTH JAZZ NOW will release their on-air announcer lineup in the next three weeks. Check out the station at http://www.smoothjazznow.com.
