The NATIONAL COALITION FOR LITERACY will honor Country singer GRETCHEN WILSON with its 2009 NCL Literacy Leadership Award. The award will be presented on SEPTEMBER 16th during a reception at the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS in WASHINGTON D.C.
Each year, the honor is given to two political figures, two advocacy groups and one literary activist who have made extraordinary contributions to improving literacy and raising awareness of adult literacy and the English language. WILSON received her GED in 2008 and went on to speak to a Congressional subcommittee in early 2009 about the importance of education.
