As a direct result of the sale of SHERIDAN BROADCASTING’s three stations that served the African-American community in PITTSBURGH, BLACK POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT Chairman TIM STEVENS sent an open letter to the FCC regarding the effect of the loss of Urban WAMO-FM, Urban AC WAMO-A,and Black Gospel WPGR-A. In his letter, he encouraged support for the creation of at least one “Afro-centric” radio station for the PITTSBURGH market.
SHERIDAN BROADCATING sold the stations to ST. JOSEPH MISSIONS earlier this year. The new owners plan to broadcast CATHOLIC religious programming. All three signals are presently silent, awaiting the launch of the new programming initiatives.
