WNYC News/Talk WNYC/NEW YORK takes control of NY TIMES Classical WQXR on OCTOBER 8th, and THE NEW YORK TIMES reports "some announcers will remain. THE METROPOLITAN OPERA will still be heard on SATURDAYS. Religious programming will disappear, and don’t expect to hear much vocal music."
"There’s going to be a lot more music," WNYC Pres./CEO LAURA R. WALKER told THE TIMES. "That in and of itself is a huge thing."
WQXR will flip to being a public radio station, and move from it's current 96.3 frequency to 105.9. WALKER said the station would have about four minutes of underwriting announcements an hour, as opposed to the current 12 minutes an hour.
"We can program the music around the music, not just commercials," WALKER added.
