ENTERCOM Sports WEEI-A/BOSTON is picking up ESPN RADIO affiliation, with the station adding the overnight "ALL NIGHT WITH JASON SMITH" and weekend programming, plus national play-by-play, to the station's lineup starting NOVEMBER 2nd (with MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL playoff action being added immediately). ESPN RADIO was previously heard on its former affiliate, Sports WAMG-A-WLLH-A (ESPN BOSTON), before that station dropped the format recently.
In addition, ESPN NFL expert ADAM SCHEFTER will appear FRIDAYS during football season on JOHN DENNIS and GERRY CALLAHAN's morning show and baseball expert and former BOSTON GLOBE columnist PETER GAMMONS will appear weekly during baseball season on GLENN ORDWAY's afternoon "THE BIG SHOW."
"This partnership is a win for everyone, especially our listeners," said ENTERCOM NEW ENGLAND VP/Market Manager JULIE KAHN. "As WEEI’s footprint grows across the NEW ENGLAND on the airwaves and across the nation online, ESPN brings invaluable national content and insight."
ESPN SVP/Production, Business Divisions TRAUG KELLER said, "The recent success of the RED SOX, PATRIOTS, CELTICS and BRUINS make this an exciting time to be entering the BOSTON market on one of the nation’s premier Sports stations. Combining ESPN RADIO's content and personalities with WEEI’s local reputation is a win-win for both parties, as well as for the area’s passionate fans."
ENTERCOM NEW ENGLAND VP/AM Programming JASON WOLFE added, "This newly formed partnership will continue to solidify WEEI as the region’s foremost authority for sports coverage. Adding PETER and ADAM, who we’ve enjoyed regular relationships with in the past, in addition to the many incredibly talented hosts and commentators that ESPN has in its stable, creates must listen radio for our audience."
ESPN recently launched a local website aimed at BOSTON sports fans; WEEI's website previously retooled to be a full-service Sports portal and news site for BOSTON fans.
