JOHN "JUNIOR" GOTTI is free on bail after jurors in his trial on racketeering and masterminding the attempted kidnapping of WABC-A/NEW YORK host CURTIS SLIWA cleared him of the racketeering charge and hung on the kidnapping charge. SLIWA was shot in the bungled 1992 kidnapping by two men, and prosecutors and SLIWA had claimed that GOTTI had ordered the abduction as revenge for comments SLIWA made on the air. Criticizing the verdict and the jury, SLIWA told reporters "I'm a dead man walking. I know there are GAMBINO cohorts who took a solemn vow to do what they couldn't do, which is to end my life."
