FCC Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI's visit with the editorial board of the LOS ANGELES TIMES on THURSDAY yielded little new information about his plans at the Commission. The paper's JOE FLINT characterized GENACHOWSKI's responses to the board's questions as from a lawyer "playing his cards close to the vest."
GENACHOWSKI parried a question about consolidation by saying the issue raised "very legitimate concerns" before launching into a discussion about the process of reviewing the issue rather than his opinion. He also declined to discuss specific examples and spoke of "trying to institutionalize excellence so not everything is a big mystery."
On content regulation like indecency, he did offer that "The FCC shouldn't enter the content world lightly," but suggested that he wants technology to solve the problem, but that in dealing with the JANET JACKSON case and other indecency complaints, "We have an obligation to defend the statute."
