EMMIS Alternative KROX (101X)/AUSTIN morning hosts JASON & DEB of THE MORNING X have been suspended for a full week for using "foolish and insensitive innuendos" on-air this past TUESDAY (10/13), while discussing a news item about the problems at ZILKER PARK with mud after AUSTIN CITY LIMITS MUSIC FESTIVAL.
According to THE EXAMINER, reports on what was actually said are somewhat unclear, although other news sources have interviewed listeners who thought they heard references to "wet backs" while the jocks claim they were talking about "wet vacs."
EMMIS/AUSTIN VP/Market Mgr. SCOTT GILLMORE said, "During that discussion they did not use any slur, but they did make foolish and insensitive innuendos for which we sincerely apologize. They suggested getting a big squeegee or a wet vac. They then repeated the wet vac suggestion in some suggestive and insensitive ways. As a result, they were suspended immediately for one week each without pay.
"In light of this, EMMIS AUSTIN RADIO is going to arrange mandatory cultural awareness & diversity training for all on-air hosts on all six of our radio stations."
The following message was posted on DEB's twitter page: "We'll be back soon, with a little soap taste still lingering maybe..."
JASON & DEB will return to the 101X airwaves on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21st.
