ROARING FORK PUBLIC RADIO noncommercial KAJX-KCJX (ASPEN PUBLIC RADIO)/ASPEN, CO is in negotiations to move its operation to an expanded WHEELER OPERA HOUSE, reports the ASPEN TIMES.
The station, presently located in the RED BRICK CENTER FOR THE ARTS, would move into the new venue if talks come to fruition and the theater is expanded, according to WHEELER Exec. Dir. GRAM SLATON, who told the paper in an e-mail, "It's just something we have discussed at some length, since it would answer needs for both of us. It's not a perfect fit, but I think it would be a better fit than what they have over at the RED BRICK -- more space, access to a performance venue for quick access to visiting artists, etc."
The possibility of ASPEN PUBLIC RADIO occupying space at an expanded WHEELER was revealed at MONDAY's ASPEN City Council meeting. The WHEELER expansion would cost $30 million and would be funded by the theater's $27 million endowment fund, with another $3 million needed for the project.
