Mexican norteño superstars LOS TIGRES DEL NORTE, canceled participation last night in a major awards show after the band "was barred from performing a song critical of the government's campaign against drug cartels," reports THE LOS ANGELES TIMES.
The band is well known for ballads which detail the exploits of drug traffickers. They had arrived in MEXICO CITY from LOS ANGELES for last night's event, but organizers of the show would not allow the band to play their latest single, "La Granja" ("The Farm"), the group's record label, UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP, said in a statement.
"They have to explain to us the reason for this censorship," TIGRES leader JORGE HERNANDEZ said, referring to the organizers.
