The Community Advisory Board of noncommercial WXEL-F and PBS affiliate WXEL-TV/WEST PALM BEACH says that it will ask the FCC to intervene to block the stations' sale, but an FCC official told the SOUTH FLORIDA SUN SENTINEL that any request for FCC intervention would be premature before a formal application for the sale is filed.
The board, alleging mismanagement of the operation, had ordered licensee BARRY UNIVERSITY to sell the stations to local community group COMMUNITY BROADCASTING FOUNDATION OF PALM BEACH AND THE TREASURE COAST, which battled against an earlier attempt to sell the stations to the owner of WNET (TV)/NEW YORK and WLIW-TV/GARDEN CITY, NY, by OCTOBER 30th, but the school ignored the order and has been talking to other potential purchasers.
The FCC's DAVID FISK told the SUN SENTINEL that the Commission would have to get an application to transfer the licenses before a complaint by the Community Advisory Board would be considered.
