SAMUEL HEYMAN, the corporate raider who bucked convention by buying and then holding onto companies for the long term, died SUNDAY in MANHATTAN of complications from open heart surgery at 70, according to the NEW YORK TIMES.
HEYMAN served as Chairman of the GAF CORPORATION, which he and a group of investors bought in 1983 after a proxy fight, and which owned Classical WNCN (now Classic Rock WAXQ)/NEW YORK at the time. HEYMAN was President of the station, which GAF had purchased in JUNE 1976 from STARR BROADCASTING, until its sale in 1993.
