The 2009 SESAC NASHVILLE MUSIC AWARDS were held last night (11/9) in MUSIC CITY. MONTY POWELL won "Songwriter Of The Year" for co-writing CAPITOL star KEITH URBAN's recent hits, "Sweet Thing" and "Kiss A Girl." In addition, "Sweet Thing" was also named "Song Of The Year," and POWELL's publishers EDEN VALLEY MUSIC and UNIVERSAL TUNES were named SESAC's "Country Publishers Of The Year."
Twelve Country songs were also honored as SESAC's most-played songs on Country radio, with the songwriters accepting the awards. Those who were recognized included HILLARY SCOTT of CAPITOL/NASHVILLE trio LADY ANTEBELLUM, LIZ ROSE (a frequent co-writer with BIG MACHINE's TAYLOR SWIFT) and SCOOTER CARUSOE ("Better As A Memory" by BNA star KENNY CHESNEY).
