Congrats to ARISTA/NASHVILLE VP/Promotions SKIP BISHOP, National Dir./Promotion LESLY TYSON and the rest of the staff at SONY MUSIC NASHVILLE, as they have a very big first week of sales on the new CARRIE UNDERWOOD album.
"Play On," the third studio album from UNDERWOOD scanned 317,695 units in its first week according to SOUNDSCAN. That gives ARISTA the #1 slot in both the Top-200 Albums, as well as Top Country Albums for the week. CARRIE has the highest first-week sales of the year for any solo country artist and the best release-week tally for a female artist in any genre in 2009.
UNDERWOOD is up for two CMA Awards tonight (11/11), "Female Vocalist of the Year,' and "Musical Event Of The Year," for her duet with RANDY TRAVIS for "I Told You So."
