CBS RADIO News KCBS-A-KFRC (KCBS ALL NEWS 740 AM/106.9 FM)/SAN FRANCISCO will celebrate 100 years of broadcasting with a gala on FRIDAY (11/13) at the PALACE HOTEL in SAN FRANCISCO.
The station traces its roots back to CHARLES HERROLD's experiments in SAN JOSE in 1909. The station got its commercial license in 1921 as KQW-A at 740 AM, becoming a CBS affiliate in 1942 and then an owned and operated station in 1949, when the call letters changed to KCBS. The present all-News format was launched in 1968, and a simulcast on 106.9 FM began in OCTOBER 2008.
