The latest WALRUS RESEARCH study of public radio, conducted this SPRING, says that public radio's audience is continuing to age, with the average age of listeners for NPR NEWS rising from 47 to 52 in a 10year period, while Jazz listeners aged from 48 to 55 and Classical from 58 to 65.
Other findings include the growth of NPR NEWS' core listenership, with the percentage of listeners using the stations as first preference rising from 37% to 48% between 1997 and 2009, while Jazz core listenership drop from 20% to 16% and Classical remaining flat (37% to 36%).
