HALL COMMUNICATIONS Country WCTK (CAT COUNTRY)/PROVIDENCE morning show TIM LEARY & The MORNING SHOWGRAM have collected 3,559 scarves in a month for military men and women stationed overseas during the holiday season.
It all started when LEARY challenged Technical Dir. AMANDA LEONARDO to knit 20 scarves in a month for the "Operation Warm Hometown Hugs" program. It quickly escalated into purchased and handmade scarves pouring in from all over NEW ENGLAND, and one listener even sent scarves from CHICAGO.
LEARY said: “I had one listener stop me at a station appearance and give me a bag full of 151 scarves. An elementary school sent two representatives over with 189 scarves that the students made. We even had a church group dressed up as clowns drive to the station in a bus, come up and serenade us, and present us 163 handmade scarves for the troops."
Troops overseas will receive the scarves before CHRISTMAS.
