97.1 The Fan/Columbus Host Chris Spielman's Wife Stefanie Dies

Condolences to RADIOHIO/DISPATCH Sports WBNS-F (97.1 THE FAN)/COLUMBUS "THE BIG SHOW" host and former OHIO STATE and NFL player CHRIS SPIELMAN on the passing of his wife STEFANIE, who died TODAY (11/19) at their home in UPPER ARLINGTON, OH after an 11 year battle with breast cancer at 42.  STEFANIE SPIELMAN's public fight against the disease, including her husband's one-year absence from the NFL to be by her side and five recurrences, gave rise to the STEFANIE SPIELMAN FUND FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH at the ARTHUR G. JAMES CANCER HOSPITAL and SOLOVE RESEARCH INSTITUTE.

CHRIS SPIELMAN issued a statement late THURSDAY saying, "STEFANIE has gone home to be with the lord.  And for that we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years.  Together with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight."

"We have lost a leader in the fight against cancer," added seven-time TOUR DE FRANCE winner and cancer survivor LANCE ARMSTRONG.  "STEFANIE was a living example of courage and strength to everyone around her. Her perseverance was unmatchable. While the cancer community marks her passing, my family and I will keep the SPIELMANS in our thoughts as they say goodbye to their beloved wife and mother. For her sake, we will continue the battle she fought against a disease that claims too many women all over the world."

A memorial service is scheduled for TUESDAY at TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in GRANDVIEW, OH.  Public calling hours will be held MONDAY 1-8p at LONGABERGER ALUMNI HOUSE on the campus of OHIO STATE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the STEFANIE SPIELMAN FUND FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH or the STEFANIE SPIELMAN FUND PATIENT ASSISTANCE FUND at the ARTHUR G. JAMES CANCER HOSPITAL and SOLOVE RESEARCH INSTITUTE.  Contributions to either fund should be sent to the JAMES DEVELOPMENT OFFICE, 660 Ackerman Road, P.O. Box 183112, COLUMBUS, OH 43218-3112.
