In his hometown of AUGUSTA, GEORGIA where legendary soul singer JAMES BROWN currently has a statue, a commission committee has approved a plan to raise the statue, which is on one of the city's main thoroughfares, Broad Street, to a stage that could be partially funded by the sale of donor bricks.
The proposed stage would be between 16 and 18 inches high, which would increase the visibility of the statue and allow people to sit or stand on it to and be photographed with the bronze likeness of the “Godfather of Soul.”
The sale of 800 inscribed bricks at fifty dollars each would supplement a $15,000 commitment from area musician NELSON CARTER and E. LIBBY ANTHONY, the Executive Director of THE NATIONAL CLUB OWNERS, PROMOTERS and ENTERTAINMENT CONFERENCE (CORE). The hope is that the project
would be completed before 6/25-29, when CORE holds it s annual conference.
