A RASUMSSEN poll in ARIZONA shows that CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFYI-A/PHOENIX afternoon host and former Congressman J.D. HAYWORTH is in a virtual dead heat with incumbent Senator JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ) for the Republican nomination for Senator next year.
HAYWORTH has not formally declared his candidacy, but he has previously said that he is considering a run; he told the WALL STREET JOURNAL that he "would never run for office, quote, out of spite, but I do have a profound disagreement with Sen. JOHN MCCAIN over the concept of amnesty, whether he wants to call it comprehensive immigration reform or a pathway for guest workers to remain."
HAYWORTH has previously accused MCCAIN aide MARK SALTER of "blackmail" in trying to get the host to stop criticism of MCCAIN's immigration stance with threats that he would publicize HAYWORTH's connections to disgraced lobbyist JACK ABRAMOFF.
