The reason there's a billboard with the beaming face of ESPN RADIO host JASON SMITH looming over Route 91 in NEW HAVEN, CT TODAY (11/24) is that he won another "JASON vs. The World" bet. SMITH won when listener IRA MALKIN, a sales manager at GOODCOPY PRINTING in NEW HAVEN, picked the STEELERS (at home, to cover) against the BENGALS for NOVEMBER 15th's game. The STEELERS lost, so did IRA, and the payoff was a billboard reading "I LOST TO JASON SMITH" on the highway.
"My friend who works at ESPN asked JASON if I could be on and do a pick, and he let me on," said MALKIN. "I am a huge pro football fan and an even bigger STEELERS fan. I love ESPN. I don't know what I would do if it never existed. It is great to see and hear from fanatics like myself all day."
"When IRA told me he was going to do this, I asked him two favors: One, if he could make my jaw square like a male model; Two, if he could make sure I look like I had a tan," said SMITH, host of "ALLNIGHT WITH JASON SMITH," based in LOS ANGELES. "Since I used to work at ESPN (in BRISTOL) as a production assistant in the mid-1990's, I still know a ton of people in CONNECTICUT, and I guarantee you there will be some driving past that billboard who’ll say, 'That's JASON SMITH! The world may end before 2012.'"
