NAFB Confab Honors Root, Elects New VPs, Directors

The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FARM BROADCASTING's convention in KANSAS CITY NOVEMBER 11th-13th honored CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WHO-A/DES MOINES Farm Dir. KEN ROOT as 2009 Farm Broadcaster of the Year. "I think of all the things I have wanted, this has been long in coming," said ROOT, a 35-year farm reporting veteran. "This is always what I’ve wanted to do. This is what I enjoy most -- to be a farm broadcaster."
Other NAFB honors bestowed that the convention include SOUTHEAST AGNET's late LEE MCCOY and EVAN SLACK NETWORK's EVAN SLACK inducted into the NAFB Hall of Fame; the NEW HOLLAND Oscar in Agriculture going to BROWNFIELD AG NEWS Farm Dir. CYNDI YOUNG; AG MEDIA RESEARCH's RON CLAUSSEN receiving the DIX HARPER Meritorious Service Award; WMBD-A and WIRL-A/PEORIA's MEGHAN GREBNER getting the Horizon Award; and the HERB PLAMBECK Creative Excellence Award going to WYFFELS HYBRIDS and SYNGENTA SEEDS.
The organization also elected BROWNFIELD's TOM STEEVER as NAFB National VP, with KRVN-A/LEXINGTON, NE RURAL RADIO NETWORK's KEN RAHJES elected VP/WEST Region and KBHB-A/STURGIS-RAPID CITY, SD's CHASE ADAMS named WEST Region Dir. HOOSIER AG TODAY's GARY TRUITT was named VP and WLDS-A/JACKSONVILLE, IL's ROGER WARD Dir./EAST Region; KMZU/CARROLTON, MO's JANET ADKISON elected VP and FARM FUTURES RADIO's JASON VANCE Dir./SOUTH Region; KFRM-A/SALINA, KS' KYLE BAUER elected and EAGLE COMMUNICATIONS' MARK VAIL re-elected to seats on the NAFB Board; OSBORN AND BARR COMMUNICATIONS' MIKE ORSO elected Director Allied Industry Council, starting in 2011; and LINDER FARM NETWORK's LYNN KETELSEN elected Chair of the Marketing & Promotion Advisory Board.
