A pirate radio broadcaster in the OTTAWA area is facing fines for his operation, but he's fighting the takedown notice, and so is his father, because the pirate is 14 years old. The OTTAWA CITIZEN reports that JAYHAED SAADE has been issued a notice from INDUSTRY CANADA telling him to shut down his "MIX FM" at 91.9 FM in GLOUCESTER on TUESDAY, but despite the agency saying that the boy complied with the order, the station remained on the air WEDNESDAY.
SAADE's father GEORGES SAADE told the CITIZEN, "He's only a kid. He's smart, and they should be encouraging him to do this. He plays beautiful music." The station is set up with an antenna on the roof of the elder SAADE's hotel and restaurant, with a studio inside.
The maximum fine for pirate broadcasting is C$5,000 and/or up to a year in jail, with a fine of C$250 per offense per day also a possibility.
