While the majority of the free world is still wrapping last-minute CHRISTMAS presents, the buzz about APPLE's new tech toy is just starting to get into high gear. WIRED.COM cites several sources who believe the tech innovator will debut the much-anticipated Tablet -- larger than an iPHONE, smaller than a laptop -- at its annual JANUARY showcase.
Fueling the buzz is a CNET.COM story reporting that APPLE has discretely contacted some of its major developers "to prepare versions of their iPHONE apps that will work on a device with a larger screen, in time for an event next month." SILICON ALLEY INSIDER reporter DAN FROMMER confirmed that, citing a "plugged-in source in the mobile industry" who said APPLE wanted developers to "ready a higher-resolution version of their apps" for the JANUARY demonstration.
However, a different source in the mobile industry noted that "developers have been told that the mystery device will be shown off at the event only, but won't be ready to ship."
If there is a consensus in the flurry of rumors surrounding an APPLE Tablet, it's that it'll be like a 10-inch version of the iPHONE or iPOD TOUCH that runs the iPHONE OS. APPLE is rumored to gear the Tablet to e-book readers who use AMAZON KINDLE.
Both websites cite a FINANCIAL TIMES source claiming that APPLE has reportedly booked the YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS in SAN FRANCISCO "for several days in late JANUARY." The two most likely dates being talked about are the 19th or the 26th.
