Condolences to family and friends of veteran JACKSON, MS radio personality and TV traffic helicopter pilot/reporter "CHOPPER BOB" RALL, who died early TODAY (1/5) in his sleep at his home in JACKSON at 67. RALL was most recently known as the helicopter traffic reporter for NBC affiliate WLBT-TV/JACKSON, through his employer MERCURY AVIATION, and traffic reporter for Talk WFMN (SUPERTALK MISSISSIPPI) and CLEAR CHANNEL's JACKSON stations.
THe PITTSBURGH native first moved to JACKSON at the age of 12 in 1954, and started in radio at WJXN-A/JACKSON in 1958, moving on to WKGN-A/KNOXVILLE, WABB-A/MOBILE, WTIX-A/NEW ORLEANS, and KBOX-A/DALLAS before returning to JACKSON as host of a talk show with AL SIMMONS JR. at WSLI-A in 1971, followed by stops at WRBC and WWUN. He went on to manage WRBC, WSVA-A and WQPO (Q101)/HARRISONBURG, VA, WKNN (K99)/BILOXI, and WSTZ (Z106)/JACKSON through 2002, and started reporting traffic from the sky for WLBT in 1997.
