ARBITRON announced today that HORIZON MEDIA, the largest U.S. independent media services company, has signed a commitment to use radio audience estimates for HOUSTON and PHILADELPHIA based on the PPM when ARBITRON makes a decision to deploy the new audience measurement service in those markets.
The agreement covers the radio planning and buying activities of HORIZON MEDIA, which represents advertisers such as NBC UNIVERSAL, IKEA and GEICO.
"The radio industry needs to embrace PPM, as it provides us with a reliable, improved media measurement system that enhances our ability to make effective buying and planning decisions for our clients," said HORIZON MEDIA Pres. and CEO BILL KOENIGSBERG. "We firmly believe that radio is an integral part of any advertising campaign and we are ready to work with broadcasters to help the transition to Portable People Meter measurement."
"ARBITRON has been working hard to sign agreements with agencies so that they will be ready to accept PPM estimates as the currency of radio advertising transactions," said ARBITRON SVP/Sales CAROL HANLEY. "As we get closer to a decision regarding the deployment of the PPM in the U.S. media marketplace, broadcasters won’t have to worry whether the biggest national and regional ad agencies are willing to transact business using PPM audience data."
