Among the drastic cuts proposed to address the state of GEORGIA's budget crisis is the closing of the UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA's News-Talk-Classical WUGA/ATHENS, GA. The ATHENS BANNER-HERALD reports that the station is on the endangered list at the university along with the school's 4-H programs, half of the Cooperative Extension offices the school has in the state, the STATE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF GEORGIA, and 1,418 jobs, including 543 non-contract faculty jobs.
The moves are aimed at addressing a state revenue shortfall of up to $1 billion in the 2011 fiscal year. UGA's cuts would contribute $60 million to the overall reductions.
