According to a report in the NEW YORK TIMES, JORDAN SCHUR is leaving his post as President of GEFFEN RECORDS to launch a new label, SURETONE RECORDS, in partnership with UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP. RON FAIR, who currently oversee's sister imprint A&M RECORDS, is expected to be named Chairman of GEFFEN RECORDS, according to the TIMES, while current GEFFEN Co-President POLLY ANTHONY is reportedly about to take a post working with INTERSCOPE's TV ventures.
"I decided to return to myself and the natural territory I'm most comfortable in - a company that has my name on it, where my artists and I move as one," SCHUR told the TIMES.
The four year deal has SURETONE and INTERSCOPE splitting the profits from new acts signed to the new label, which will be based at INTERSCOPE's offices in SANTA MONICA. SCHUR will continue to oversee some GEFFEN acts, including WEEZER and the CURE. Previously, SCHUR oversaw FLIP RECORDS, where he signed LIMP BIZKIT.
