The BOSTON GLOBE reports that the RED SOX are talking with GREATER MEDIA to buy a 25% stake in Adult Alternative WBOS/BOSTON and move the team's game broadcasts to that station. The deal has not been completed and the paper says that incumbent rightsholder ENTERCOM sports WEEI-A-F may be able to retain the games with a last-minute bid. The SOX own a controlling interest in NEW ENGLAND SPORTS NETWORK, the team's cable TV rightsholder.
GREATER MEDIA's response to the story, from Director of Corporate Communication HEIDI RAPHAEL: “Obviously, we are interested in working with the Red Sox. However, we cannot comment at this time because negotiations are on-going. No final decisions have been made regarding a specific deal of any kind. We will make a statement as soon as we are able to comment on the situation.”
