Condolences to family and friends of former longtime ABC NEWS and WABC-TV/NEW YORK news anchor/reporter BILL BEUTEL, who died SATURDAY of complications from a neurological disorder in PINEHURST, NC at 75.
BEUTEL started his career as a radio reporter, first in CLEVELAND and then with CBS NEWS, before joining ABC NEWS in 1962 to anchor WABC-TV's news and report for the network's national newscasts. He became LONDON bureau chief in 1968, then began a long run as anchor for WABC-TV's highly successful "EYEWITNESS NEWS" from 1970 through 2001, the first 16 years of which he worked with ROGER GRIMSBY in the NEW YORK market's most celebrated anchor pairing. BEUTEL worked as a correspondent for the network in 2001-2003 before retiring.
