Bertelsmann AG Posts 2005 Operating Profit Increase; Sony BMG Revenues Fall

German media conglomerate BERTELSMANN AG on WEDNESDAY reported a 12.7% percent rise in 2005 operating profit, boosted by its TV business and publishing arm. Earnings before interest and tax adjusted for special effects rose to 1.61 billion euros ($1.96 billion) from 1.43 billion in 2004.
SONY BMG, the company's joint venture with SONY CORP., posted operating earnings of 177 million euros ($215 million) last year compared with 162 million euros the year before. Revenue, however, fell to 2.12 billion euros ($2.57 billion) from 2.5 billion euros the year before.
