Condolences to family and friends of CLEVELAND Classical music figure, composer, and longtime Classical WCLV/CLEVELAND personality KLAUS GEORGE ROY, who died FRIDAY (5/28) at CLEVELAND's MCGREGOR OF OVERLOOK long-term care home at 86, according to the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER.
ROY, a native of VIENNA, AUSTRIA, moved to the U.S. in 1940 after escaping from EUROPE through the Kindertransport effort, and after serving in the ARMY and earning a master's degree at HARVARD, became a music librarian at BOSTON UNIVERSITY and a music critic for the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR. He moved to CLEVELAND in 1956, becoming Director of Publications and Program Book Editor for the CLEVELAND SYMPHONY and intermission host for the orchestra's broadcasts on WCLV.
