The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports that a judge in LOS ANGELES has threatened a court takeover of DEATH ROW RECORDS unless MARION "SUGE" KNIGHT appears at a hearing next month to discuss his assets. KNIGHT lost a $107 million judgement last year to LYDIA HARRIS, and her jailed ex-husband, MICHAEL, who is serving a 28-year drug sentence at SAN QUENTIN.
HARRIS' attorneys accused KNIGHT of evasion because he has failed to show up for three debtor examinations. HARRIS' attorney REX BEABER claimed KNIGHT was shifting his assets. KNIGHT's lawyer DERMOT GIVENS asked Judge RONALD SOHIGIAN for a postponement because KNIGHT was hiring a new team of lawyers, but the judge refused. The judge also enjoined KNIGHT from transferring or hiding any assets, according to the AP report.
A judge in MONTEREY COUNTY froze KNIGHT's assets last DECEMBER, saying KNIGHT and his lawyers had failed to answer questions and provide information in the case. MICHAEL HARRIS claims he put up $1.5 million from behind bars to help start the record label... a claim that KNIGHT has repeatedly denied.
