Legendary Country Singer/Broadcaster Buck Owens Passes

Country singer BUCK OWENS,the flashy rhinestone cowboy, who helped shape the landscape of Country music, with the "BAKERSFIELD SOUND," passed away today (3/25) at his BAKERSFIED HOME. OWENS was 76, and the cause of his death was not immediately announced.Known for his hits like, "Act Naturally," he brought the genre to TV, on the long running show "Hee Haw." The singer was inducted into the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME in 1996 and during his long career achieved more than 20 No. 1 hits. He was also well known in the broadcasting world as a radio station owner.
His company, BUCK OWENS PRODUCTIONS still owns the BAKERSFIELD Country combo KUZZ AM/FM and ABC REAL COUNTRY affiliate KCWR. OWENS died at his home in BAKERSFIELD and the cause of his death was not known. OWENS had undergone surgery for throat cancer in 1993.
